Cherry Chocolate Cake

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 3/4 cups cake flour
  • 1-1/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 jar (21 oz) Brownwood FarmsMichigan Cherry Premium Pie Filling (Add to Cart)



  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Lightly grease and flour one 9×13-inch baking pan.
  3. Cream the butter with sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the eggs and almond extract and beat well.
  5. Add the cocoa powder and mix until well combined.
  6. By hand, stir the cake flour, baking soda and salt together.
  7. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and mix until just combined.
  8. Stir in the Brownwood FarmsMichigan Cherry Premium Pie Filling (Add to Cart).
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
  10. Bake at 350 degrees F for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the middle comes out clean.
  11. Cool.  Can frost with vanilla or chocolate buttercream frosting.
